Two Bob Jones University students, Tony Miller and Wally Jaworski, went on a mission trip to Australia during the summer of 1970 after being challenged in chapel by Dr. Bob Jones, Jr. God called Wally Jaworski back to Ingham, Queensland, where he has served in the same church for the past thirty years.

The Matzko family was invited by Bro. Wally to minister in Ingham for two months in 1995. It was to be a once-in-a-lifetime ministry opportunity. But because of the Matzkos' nine summers of experience with the BJU Mission Team to Nova Scotia, Canada, in the 1980's, they quickly realized the great training opportunities in Australia (foreign culture yet English-speaking). The Lord opened the doors in 1996 for the first BJU Australia Team. Over one hundred and twenty-five students have participated during the past nine years.

We are the Bob Jones University 2006 Summer Mission Team to Equatorial Guinea. While classroom training is necessary and beneficial, there is no substitute for practical experience. This summer during the Month of July our team will be going to Equatorial Guinea, Africa, to help Missionary Jonathan Latham with some needs his ministry has. We are looking forward to not only ministering to the missionary through construction of a school building, but also to the local people through evangelistic outreach.

Following a mission trip to the USSR in 1990, Bob Jones III, president of Bob Jones University, envisioned new opportunities for evangelism in the Soviet Bloc. He also recognized the drawing power of music, especially in cultures long closed to the Gospel. He thus gave the impetus for the formation of a new BJU summer team to Europe with the twofold mission of using music as a tool of evangelism and teaching Biblical principles of music ministry in the churches.

Since 1991 Dr. William McCauley and Dr. Janie McCauley and more than 250 different Bob Jones University students have ministered with the team. The group has presented over 1200 concerts and services, concluding each with a Gospel message. For each concert the team presents choral music in the local tongue to minister to the hearts of believers as well as to provide a Gospel witness to unbelievers.

Spanish Mission Team

The history of BJU's mission team to Spanish-speaking countries goes back to the early 1980s, when a missionary in Mexico requested that the University send a group of students to assist in his ministry. In response to the need, the Lord raised up Dr. Argyle Paddock, trumpet instructor in the School of Fine Arts, and his wife, a teacher at Bob Jones Academy. While the Paddocks focused their efforts on Mexico, over the course of twenty years they also led groups to Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Panama, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Spain. Upon the Paddocks' retirement, Dr. Ken Casillas of the Bible faculty, along with his wife Soraya, became the Spanish Team leaders. Dr. Casillas traveled to Mexico with the 1989 team, and it was actually on that trip that he met his wife.
